Many Latin Americans of Italian ancestry have migrated and are migrating to the United States, making up a substantial proportion of those arriving from the Southern Cone (Southern Brazil, Argentine, Uruguay and Chile). As secondary immigrants they have connections to both their previous host countries in Latin America as well as other Italian American communities of different origins and have greatly added to the culture and diversity of these populations. The number of Italian Americans of Latin American origin is now in the hundreds of thousands or possibly over a million including 2nd generation and beyond and are a fascinating example of how immigrant population often bounce around from nation to nation before settling down.
