'EU wants to control large swathes of UK law post Brexit'

Martin Howe QC, chairman of campaign group Lawyers for Britain, says integrationists in the European Union use trade as "a tool to achieve their political objectives."

Mr Howe told Ian Collins on talkRADIO that he thought European negotiators were looking to "control large swathes of our laws post-Brexit."

He added that the EU has trade agreements with many countries, "including with Canada" that have clauses in them about fishing, "but they're nothing like the kind of thing the European Union is demanding" of the UK.

The UK is prepared to continue post-Brexit trade deal negotiations for “as long as we have time available”, Number 10 has said, as talks aimed at breaking the deadlock continue.

Boris Johnson’s official spokesman said that although time was in “very short supply”, Britain would stick at the discussions if an agreement was still possible.
