Winslow Homer: The Nature of the Artist (1986)
Documentary film about the development of the art of American painter Winslow Homer (1836-1910). Art historian John Wilmerding guides us through Homer’s early illustrations of the Civil War, picturesque scenes in the country and at the shore, and the powerful images of nature, particularly scenes of fishing boats and the sea, that characterize his mature work. Also visits places identified with Homer’s life and work. This 29-minute film was produced in 1986 by the National Gallery of Art.
