45% of British Columbians aged 16 to 65 have difficulty in accomplishing some daily living tasks due in part to limited literacy skills. “Visual literacy” refers to our ability to recognize and understand ideas conveyed through visible actions or images (such as pictures); and our eyesight and brains are key to this process. Debbie believes we can better understand challenges people face; and can improve quality of life for ourselves and others by improving our visual literacy skills to re-frame what we see. Prior to her retirement, Debbie was a literacy outreach coordinator with the Chilliwack Learning Society where she promoted the importance of literacy and lifelong learning.
