AI Festival: How Free Is AI Democracy? (De-)Politicisation Using Algorithms

Social media platforms are regulated by algorithms whose mechanisms often remain opaque. This information flow controlled by algorithms has an impact on the freedom of opinion and thus on a central democratic principle. The panel discusses: Where is the influence of AI on political processes underestimated and where perhaps overestimated? When do AI applications depoliticise social problems and how, on the other hand, can the use of AI contribute to enabling new forms of democracy?

Speakers: Anke Domscheit-Berg, elected member of the Bundestag and spokesperson for internet politics for Die Linke; Sabine Müller-Mall, political scientist, Dresden University of Technology
Moderation: Eva Wolfangel, science journalist
