[FREQUENCIES] Body Politics, Sexualities & Self Care

Through a feminist lens, the panel aims to explore the political and social meanings that are attached to certain bodies, especially those read female, and the efforts to deconstruct and overcome existing perceptions as well as stigmatisations. What has been the understanding and experience of female bodies over the decades and what are the differences over cultures, classes, and religions? Which practices did women invent to take ownership of their bodies and sexualities? Where do queer bodies or disabled bodies claim their space in this context? Writer Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah, activist and scholar Yvette Abrahams, and queer feminist blogger Emma Onekekou also discuss whether self-care can be a practice that goes beyond strengthening the self and has the potential to become a collective experience.
