The US is becoming the 2nd largest Spanish speaking country in the world, yet media companies still look at the Latinx market as a block, leading to missed opportunities in coverage, editorial and market share. Dr Retis is here to educate you on the realities of this rich, diverse, bilingual audience. Learn how the diaspora came to be, the current state, and where the cultures are moving. Jessica Retis, PhD is a globally recognized scholar in Latino media. Professor and Director of the School of Journalism, and Director of the Bilingual Journalism M.A. She is the first professor of color to be named director in the school's 72-year history. She was awarded the Center for University Education Scholarship Distinguished Fellowship for her research on bilingual journalism education in the United States. Dr. Retis has three decades of experience as a college educator in Mexico, Spain and the U.S., and two decades as a journalist in Peru, Mexico and Spain. She is currently the only Latina in the country directing a school of journalism with undergraduate and graduate programs. She served as Academic At-Large Officer of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (NAHJ).
