Meet 2019 Regents Professor Alfred S. McEwen, true explorer and Principle Investigator of the HiRISE high-resolution imaging camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. Thanks to Alfred's work, we have extraordinary insight into the surface of the red planet, from landslides to ripples to impact craters and weather. What has he learned from bringing this harsh beauty to Earth? There is no Planet B.

The title of Regents Professor is reserved for full professors whose exceptional achievements merit national and international distinction. Regents Professor appointments are limited to no more than 3% of the total number of the university's tenured and tenure-track faculty members.
