Robert Schumann composed the so-called "Spring Symphony" in 1841, as he himself wrote, "in that springtime urge which assails man probably up to the highest age and every year anew."

At the state-run Music High School Schloss Belvedere, up to 120 musically gifted pupils live and learn from grade 5 onwards. They are comprehensively supported: on the one hand by the high musical standards of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar, and on the other hand by the grammar school leading to the general university entrance qualification.

Joan Pagès Valls has led the orchestra at the Music High School Schloss Belvedere/ Highly Gifted Centre of the Weimar Academy of Music since 2009, where he has also been Artistic Director since 2017/2018. Valls teaches orchestral conducting at the Universtiy of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
