Squid Game is a South Korean survival drama streaming television series created by Hwang Dong-hyuk for Netflix.

Netflix's Squid Game became a massive hit with audiences all over the world. The Korean series solidified its place in the TV history books when it won six Emmy Awards, including Lead Actor in a Drama Series for Lee Jung-jae and Directing for a Drama Series for Hwang Dong-hyuk, in the process becoming the first show not in English to win those awards. We're hungry for more Squid Game.

It took a long time for Squid Game to get officially renewed; the Season 2 pick-up was announced nine months after the series premiered. Along with the show's renewal for a second season, Netflix tweeted a letter from creator Dong-hyuk in which he confirms "a whole new round" of games is in store, plus some some details about Season 2, like who we can expect to see back. Turns out, that terrifying gigantic doll has a "boyfriend,".

Though the ending of season 1 certainly made room for a sequel, it is not fully clear what a second season would focus on. We expect the main character - player 456 - to return, given he didn't board the flight to see his daughter and we also expect him to attempt to take down those running the game.

Lee Jung-jae who plays the lead has hinted that specific players could have actually survived the games. Series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk said "There will be no known Hollywood actor in Season 2. That’s not in the plan and if the stage changes, maybe in Season 3 – but for Season 2, it is still set in Korea. Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of Squid Game, so maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games.

While no one is sure when season 2 of Squid Game will premiere on Netflix, Dong-hyuk said that he's assuming 2023 or 2024.
