The silent killer of concrete! | Intro to Alkali Aggregate Reaction

Alkali aggregate reaction (AAR) is a term that is used to describe both alkali silica reaction (ASR) and alkali carbonate reaction (ACR). This deterioration is caused by the aggregates within concrete being chemically attacked by the alkalis in the pore solution. The video gives a brief overview of both deterioration mechanisms and then compares and contrasts both methods in a number of ways and a number of examples of each are shown. Next, the video explains alkalis and where they are from and how they change a concrete mixture.
