Piano Trio op.6 by Evgeny Kissin
German premiere
0:18 Lento. Allegro | 7:54 Adagio | 12:43 Finale
Evgeny Kissin, piano | Friedemann Eichhorn, violin | Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, violoncello
The German premiere took place in the context of the award of the honorary doctorate of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar to Evgeny Kissin on October 22, 2022 in the Festsaal Fürstenhaus.
The trio for violin, cello and piano was composed in 2022 and has as its theme the current war in Ukraine. In all three movements Evgeny Kissin expresses his strong wish for peace and freedom for the Ukrainian people and all mankind. Quotations include two Ukrainian folk songs, "I'll go to the grave" and "Woe is me, woe", as well as the Ukrainian national anthem.
World-class pianist Evgeny Kissin was born in Moscow in 1971. Since his childhood, he has had a personal connection with the works of Franz Liszt, for which he has always rendered special services. His outstanding achievements as one of the most important pianists of our time and his Liszt interpretations are the main reasons for awarding him an honorary doctorate. The honorary doctorate also honors Kissin for his services to the Yiddish language and Jewish culture. He has premiered and revived works by Jewish composers on several occasions. He himself writes Yiddish texts and is involved with Yiddish literature.
Friedemann Eichhorn (violin) and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt (violoncello) are internationally sought-after artists and teach as professors at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar. More information: https://t1p.de/c4ssk and http://www.wolfgangemanuelschmidt.com/en/
