One of the biggest differences between the two is that holistic dentists never use mercury-amalgam fillings. Mercury is a toxic metal, and with the rise of safer materials like glass ionomer cement (GIC) and dental composite, there is no need to use it for dental fillings.

With the potential health risks of mercury becoming well known, many people are seeking the removal of their silver fillings. What can I expect during my first holistic visit?
At your first visit, you’ll receive a thorough examination. We will discuss your goals for that visit, and whether any X-rays are recommended. Dr. Shauna Palmer will ask you specific questions about your overall health, habits, and medical history so that we can develop a better understanding of your holistic health. Bringing any relevant medical records or other documentation to your appointment can help us do this.

Holistic dentistry is just as technologically advanced as traditional dentistry, if not more so. That’s why we offer such treatments as laser therapy at our office. Dental lasers can be used to to treat gum disease, oral infections, sensitive teeth and so much more. Laser treatment can reduce pain, is less invasive, and causes less discomfort than traditional dental tools.
