Bioethics in Medicine: History Informing the Future | Tyler Nguyen | TEDxNEOMED

If the ethical implications of medicine are to advance at the speed of innovation, we must first explore and understand the history of bioethics. Tyler is currently a medical school student at Northeastern Ohio Medical University. He was born and raised in Akron, Ohio to two immigrant parents, refugees of the Vietnam War. After completing his education at the Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, he graduated from the University of Akron with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biomedical Science where he conducted research seeking to study preeclampsia. It was there at the U of A that he was introduced to the rich history of ethics and bioethics by two excellent ethics professors who asked the hard questions he did not realize even existed within the realm of science and medicine. He was immediately enthralled, as the schools of thought within these classes seemed to complement the content of his STEM courses. He hopes to continue to study and work in bioethics within his role as a physician.
