BBC politics host Andrew Marr has slammed a leading French MP over the latest demands to come from the EU, scuppering the chances of a Brexit deal in the 11th hour.
The UK and EU negotiating teams were said to be nearing a compromise during the week on the main sticking points of state aid, fisheries and the so called level playing field, before “absurd” demands were pasted to Michel Barnier from French President Emmanuel Macron with brought the trade talks to a screeching halt.
There are now only 48 hours to save any Brexit deal between the UK and EU or Prime Minister Boris Johnson has decided to move to a no deal Brexit after a phone call with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen ended with no breakthrough.

THE BBC's Andrew Marr rebuked a leading French MP and strong ally of Emmanuel Macron this morning, as he claimed the EU's last-minute demands were an attempt to scupper Britain's "independence".
Mr Marr grilled leading French MP Alexander Holroyd, on the latest demands from the EU. Mr Marr claimed that the EU's latest fishing demand for 10 years of free access to British waters was "taking the Mickey".
BBC’s Marr said: "The EU has hardened its negotiating position at the last minute and that is not fair dealing."
When Mr Holroyd dismissed this, claiming the EU has held the "same position for the last four years," Mr Marr replied. "Let's look at fishing. Britain is regaining her independence as an independent coastal state, and that includes independence and authority over her own coastal waters.
"So when the EU says they want access for the next ten years, to many people in Britain that looks like taking the Mickey, frankly."
The French MP responded by claiming that the EU would cut off market access to British fishermen if French fishermen were banned from Britain's waters.
He said: "Britain is gaining its full sovereignty over its fishing waters and the EU is regaining its full sovereignty over who has access to its markets.
"European fishermen fish a lot in British waters, but most fish fished by British fishermen are sold in the European common market."
Mr Marr said: "But if Britain leaves it then has to follow EU regulations in any directions forever after, that's not real freedom is it?
"That's not authority, that's not independence."
The En Marche MP and ally of the French President claimed: "Britain has its full independence to make its decision, to sign or not sign a deal" and that France has "the right to veto" any proposed UK-EU trade deal if it doesn’t like what has been agreed.
France President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly to block any deal with Britain that sees France lose out on fishing rights.
It has caused a divide between himself and German Chancellor Angela Merkel who has made calls for a “compromise” between the UK and EU. Germany has the most to lose financially from all EU members states in a no deal scenario particularly in its automotive sector.
It comes as Prime Minister Boris Johnson placed a final 48 hour deadline on the Brexit trade talks after chief negotiators Lord David Frost and Michel Barnier failed to find a compromise under the new EU demands.
A source close to the British negotiating team said: “Basically we are not budging. They (the EU) will have to budge. They need to change their mandate.
“If that does not happen by Monday, it will be finished.”
