Michael Obst: Songbook I (World Premiere)
0:39 I. Hoffnung 4:32 II. Im Hafen 6:49 III. Im roten Salon 12:20 IV. Unter dem Mond 15:22 V. Testament 19:38 VI. Jänner
Chamber Choir and Orchestra of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar
Conductor: Nicolás Pasquet
Songbook is not a typical choral work with orchestra. The voices are embedded in the orchestral sound for long passages, and in many places there is a tonal fusion of the voices with the instruments. Songbook is a two-part composition (Songbook I + Songbook II) with songs on texts by Hermann Schneider.
Michael Obst is a composer, pianist, and teacher. He began his successful composing career with electronic music and subsequently composed works for music theater, film and concert halls. His experience as a pianist with the Ensemble Modern, enriched his understanding of contemporary music. After 25 fulfilling years of teaching (e.g. as composition professor at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar), he is now excited to once again concentrate on his own composition projects.
