Needy lion boyfriend 🦁😂

We like to ensure all our lions live within their prides/families/groups to try ensure they stay as close to a natural environment as possible, able to mate, but without a resulting pregnancy *see below.
When a female lion comes into oestrus (heat) the male who wins the rights to mate with her gets extremely possessive. He will not tolerate any other pride member near her, not even other lionesses. He shadows her everywhere she goes (a bit like a needy boyfriend 😂) & he often doesn’t eat during this time period. He mates with her every 15 minutes or so for the few days of her oestrus & he usually loses some weight during this time frame.
