Lion Introduction day 1

Exciting stuff at gg lion sanctuary last week as we finally introduced Boy & BE to the 3 lionesses next door after their recent successful vasectomies by @adriantordiffe
This introduction has been in the planning for a few months now.

👩‍❤️‍👨👩‍❤️‍💋‍👨Anyone expecting romantic unions just yet will be sorely disappointed that’s not how lion pride structure works in real life ;) !! (maybe watch the LionKing movie for that 😂💗)

Mike opened up the gate between the 2 camps and called the boys, as first Bright Eyes and then Boy trotted through & into the girls camp. This is interesting as Boy is the dominant male lion of the duo.
Both males ignored the girls to start with and strutted around the new camp, smelling and marking everywhere, this is natural male lion behaviour in a new space.
The 3 lionesses Lilla, Tamarind & Thuleli all stayed close together focused intensely on watching the males do their lion business. When the boys came within their range the girls moved away & acted submissively as the new pride structure hierarchy is established.
We are monitoring closely the interactions and in our past experiences of introductions it takes a few days to settle in and calm down.
This is perfectly natural lion behaviour and it actually stimulates the lions wild instincts.. a bit of initial fighting is customary and in a lions DNA. The true essence of lions is the will to fight & dominate so it’s wonderful to see our lions living as authentic a life as possible in sanctuary.
We are are a lion sanctuary and not the wild, therefore vasectomies were essential to ensure there will be no breeding. Breeding in captivity does not help wild lion numbers or the species survival.
Our mission is to always ensure the lions live as natural a life as possible here, and as the new pride settles in to having both camps, we will film their interactions for you. We are looking forward to witnessing the love, respect and pride companionship that will no doubt develop between the males & females after the new pecking order and rank has been established.
The boys are the bosses.. for now..
