W116 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 with BBS wheels, 1979

The 450 SEL 6.9 succeeded the 300 SEL 6.3 as the king of Mercedes-Benz super-sedans. A muscle car in a business suit, the W116-based 450 SEL featured a punched-out version of the earlier car’s overhead cam M100 V8 rated at over 280 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque. The 6.9 could reach speeds of nearly 150 miles per hour, yet it had all the refinement, space, and luxury expected of a Mercedes-Benz sedan.
