A newsman in Thailand was killed in a highway accident while he was filming footage for a news segment.

Channel 5 cameraman Sunet Thawaree, 41, was filming motorists on the Mittrapap-Nong Khai Road in Sikhiu District on Wednesday morning. Two of his colleagues were sitting inside a company pickup truck that was parked adjacent to the highway's median strip.

Penkae Unchamnarn, who was driving in another pickup truck, crashed into the back of the Channel 5 vehicle when she overtook an interprovincial bus and failed to brake in time. The crash forced the Channel 5 truck forward, striking Thawaree and sending him into a nearby tree. The impact killed Thawaree and injured the two newsmen in the vehicle.

At the time, the group was covering a story regarding Transport Minister Chadchart Sitthipunt's planned launch of a road-safety centre on the highway.
