Debate: Should Beef be Banned In India? (Malayalam) Rahul Easwar Vs Ravichandrn C

This debate was held at Press Club Hall, Trivandrum on 11.11.15 at 4 pm between noted Freethinker and authour Ravichandran C and Activist cum philosopher Rahul Eswar. This event was conducted by the Kerala Freethinkers Forum as curtain raiser to 'SWOTHANTHRA LOKAM-2015', the annual conference of freethinkers in Kerala, slated to be held on Dec 24,25 2015 at Vyloppally Saumskrithi Bhavan, Trivandrum. The Ban on cow slaughter was a topic for heated debate in India over the last six months. The conflict intensified ever since the murder of 3 Muslims in North India in October, 2015 accusing them of consuming cow meat. The debaters here tackling the question of comprehensive ban on cow slaughter in India. Widespread intolerance towards liberals and minorities have become the hallmark of present day India under the rule of the Hindu nationalist party, BJP. Earlier this year, Barack Obama himself commented on " acts of intolerance that would have shocked Gandhiji, the person who helped to liberate that nation". The current trend of "poisoning politics with religious hatred" under the present Indian Government has been criticized far and wide. One of the most macabre expressions of this growing intolerance in India happened on the night of 28 September 2015 in Bisara village near Dadri, Uttar Pradesh. A 50-year-old man, Mohammad Akhlaq, was beaten to death and his 22-year-old son severely injured by a mob, for the "crime" of eating beef.See:

Even as the Prime minister of the country chose to remain silent over the incident, people all over India raised their voices .
