Is Sankara Vedanta Scientific? (Malayalam) Ravichandran C Vs Swami Chidanandapuri Part 1

This was a debate between noted freethinker and authour Ravichandran C and Vedantist Swami Chidandapuri held at Women Association Hall at Ernakulam,Kerala, India at 3 pm on 13.4.16 Conducted by Yukthivadi padanakendram, Ernakulam,Kerala.

In this video, the first half (two and a half hours of the five hour debate) of the debate is presented. This consists of a 10-10 minute session for introduction, 40-40 for the presentation of key points, 10-10 for rebuttals and counters and 10-10 again for further clarification. Dr. Arun Kumar, the famous media personality and professor, was the moderator for the event.

The first to go is Prof. Ravichandran by mutual consent. He expresses that Sankara's Vedanta is not, in three ways, "shasthreeyam". First, in the conventional meaning way that it is scientific by modern standards. Second, that it is not from the Hindu tradition and not "shasthra" in the meaning of what is classical. Third, as a common sense law that works, Vedanta fails the test.

Swami Chidandapuri's introduction focuses on what Vedanta is, which is not at all many but one. And he says that it is human to seek knowledge and it is our instinct for answers that is our organ of science. Hence, the ultimate repository of knowlege, that is Vedanta, is obviously scientific.

In the next session, both of the debators elaborate thier points. They then move on to question and challenge each other in a friendly but firey match of wits and wisdom.
