Lafcadio Hearn - The Old Japan; Strangeness and Charm
Lafcadio Hearn was a Greek born to a harsh childhood on the island of Lefkada. At the age of 19, he moved to Cincinnati and later New Orleans. Hearn then went on to Japan where he worked as a teacher, eventually marrying into a local samurai family. His writings, among the few at the time written by a Western author, offered his audience rare glimpses into the elusive Japanese culture.
