This video is the first part of series of videos about geology and geomorphology in Alai Valley, Northern Pamir, and some recent studies there. In this part I talk about general settings in the Valley, its geology and exploration history; what are the surge glaciers, and how glaciers behave in the Zaalai Range. I state the main questions for future videos about deposits in the Valley: how they formed, what do we know about that and why it is important to study them in this settings.

This video is full of amazing pictures from the Alai Valley and I show all the discussed features using the GoogleEarth application. I speak with no notes and deliberately use simple language. My aim is here to make Science available for everyone.
