Moon Knight Episode 3 takes us to Egypt, where Marc Spector / Steven is hunting for Ammit’s tomb with Layla. As we dive into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Egyptian lore, we see how it connects to Kang, Black Panther, the X-Men, and–of all people–Baron Zemo. The show also references locations from the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, nodding to future MCU team ups between these heroes. We give a full breakdown of the episode, explain the Ennead, and what happened to Ammit and Khonshu all those thousands of years ago.

The episode begins with Layla getting her new fake passport, which helps us get to know the character, and deepens the mystery surrounding Marc’s DID.

We’ve covered this in past videos, but in the comics steam grant is an alternate personality of Marc Spector, who suffers from dissociative identity disorder, DUD for short or more commonly called multiple personality disorder.

She says "new apartment 20 minutes from old place". In this video last week, we guessed that Marc created the Stephen identity because–subconsciously–he needed someone who was an expert in Egyptology. And we pointed out that he transferred his love of Layla to Stephen–they even have the same favorite poem.

Now we see that Steven has also chosen an apartment close to where Marc lived. People who suffer with DID have the ability to transfer skills or even feelings to their identities without them being aware of each other. I think that’s what we’re seeing here.

Marc lived with Layla in London, it's the place that reminds him the most of her. So the apet of himself that still loves her–Steven–turns out to be English.

The candy that she’s eating looks a lot like Turkish delight…something tells me she would get on well with Zemo.

A neat detail that I noticed in this office: the photo lights were teased in the credits, here. I think it’s significant that Layla is beginning the episode by forging a new identity for herself, just as Marc’s DID created new personalities for him.

Turns out Layla likes to reacquire artifacts, like a modern day Indiana Jones, she says "already stolen". Which calls to mind Killmonger’s brilliant opening form black panther.

The Passport woman mentions Layla’s dad. Now she seems to be based on another character, Marlene, from the comics–who is Marc Spector’s girlfriend. Her father was an archaeologist who was executed by a mercenary leader named Raul Bushman–and one of the mercenaries working for him was Marc Spector. Last episode teased that Marc was responsible for an archaeologists' death. And I’ll bet you this is the secret harrow talks about later in the episode [you don't want to tell her].

The woman references her father saying [think of his little scarab]. Which is interesting. I’m wondering if there’s a secret origin here, where Layla’s dad actually discovered the scarab, and Konshu ordered Marc to kill her father, to obtain the scarab for him. Just a thought.

This is a fake passport., so it’s likely that the date is fake too. Things were probably very confusing during the blip, so it's easier to say a fake was issued during that time.

The first shot after the Marvel logo is of real sand, unlike the fake out shit at the start of episode 2. Earlier I mentioned that layla is like Indiana Jones–and there are actually a lot of similarities to this story and raiders of the lost ark.

We have the adventurer who leaves 2 lives, whose romantic interest is a woman from his past, and the adventurer knew her father. This man had an artifact that led to a secret burial place, and the villains get ahold of the artifact and get to the area first. Except in raiders, the heroes get to the real dig site before the villains. [clip, they’re digging in the wrong place]

Except, in raiders the villains were Nazis, and here they seem like exteremely nice people.

Cut to Marc chasing down some of Ammit’s followers on a rooftop chase. Instead Of hitting this kid, he slaps him [clip]. This shows us that Marc has a soft spot for the kid, and later it’ll store even more when he kills himself. Again, Indian Jones.

Marc hesitates when he sees Steven's reflection in the blade [clip]. Marc’s big problem in this episode is that he keeps fighting near reflective services.
