What is Transference?
This video explains the concept of Transference. Transference in psychoanalytic therapy is the process whereby the patient displaces both positive and negative feelings that they had toward past significant others in their early life onto the analyst in the “here and now". We all experience and look at relationships through our learned patterns that we have slowly acquired in the process of growing up in our specific social and familial environment. These are subjective ways of seeing others that are deeply ingrained within us and colour our future relationships in a certain predetermined way. By bringing unresolved feelings from the past into the present relationship with the analyst they can be talked about, worked through and resolved.
