[Upgrade lens housing] Tokina AT-X pro 16-28mm f/2.8_Ver.02

In my opinion, Tokina AT-X pro 16-28mm f/2.8 lens has a good optical performance and a good price-performance ratio. However, I am not satisfied with the weight of about 1 kg, the front hood shape that makes it difficult to use filters, Tokina's unique toggle-type focus automatic/manual switching method, and the AF noise. Although it was upgraded to the Opera version a few years ago, it seems that there is no significant difference except for some changes in the appearance (the shape of the rubber grip on the control unit).

The lens is designed for DSLR FF cameras, and its usability and competitiveness are not as good as they used to be, as more and more lenses that are customized for digital mirrorless cameras with a shorter flange back distance have appeared.

I tried to modify/upgrade the lens for video shooting, (including the noise of the autofocus, the short rotation radius of the manual focus operation, and the hood shape that is not suitable for using ND filters) In the previous ver.01, I completely redesigned the overall design and the fixing method of the housing by improving the parts that were lacking.

I prefer the non-destructive method of attaching it to the outside while keeping the original housing and parts of the lens. However, the front hood had to be disassembled and removed. Due to the protruding spherical glass in the front, the outer diameter had to be designed to 114mm to prevent vignetting at the ultra-wide angle (16mm) while maintaining the front housing shape to protect it. It is a lens with many restrictions for housing upgrades. I recommend a matte box and a square filter with a size of 4x5.65 for mounting filters (that does not cause vignetting at a focal length of 16mm)

The lens in the video is a Nikon F mount (D type) lens, and the EF mount lens is also of almost the same design except for the mount part and the lower part of the lens, so I think it can be installed.

제 생각에는 Tokina AT-X pro 16-28mm f/2.8 렌즈는 광학 성능이 좋고 가격 대비 성능이 좋습니다. 하지만 1kg 정도의 무게와 필터 사용이 어려운 전면 후드 형태, 토키나 특유의 토글식 초점 자동/수동 전환 방식, AF 노이즈 등은 만족스럽지 못하다. 몇 년 전 오페라 버전으로 업그레이드됐지만 외관상 약간의 변화(컨트롤 유닛의 고무 그립 모양)를 제외하면 큰 차이는 없어 보인다.

이 렌즈는 DSLR FF 카메라용으로 설계되었으며, 점점 플랜지백 거리가 짧아진 디지털 미러리스 카메라에 특화된 렌즈가 등장하면서 사용성과 경쟁력이 예전만큼 좋지 못하다.

(오토포커스의 노이즈, 수동포커스의 짧은 회전반경, ND필터 사용에 부적합한 후드 형상 등) 동영상 촬영용 렌즈를 수정/업그레이드 해보았습니다.

원래 하우징과 렌즈 부품을 그대로 유지하면서 외부에 부착하는 비파괴 방식을 선호합니다. 그러나 전면 후드를 분해하여 제거해야 했습니다. 전면에 돌출된 구형 유리로 인해 초광각(16mm)에서 비네팅을 방지하기 위해 외경을 114mm로 설계해야 했고, 이를 보호하기 위해 전면 하우징 형태를 유지했다. 하우징 업그레이드에 제약이 많은 렌즈입니다. 16mm의 초점 거리에서 비네팅이 발생하지 않게 필터를 장착하려면 매트박스와 4x5.65 크기의 사각형 필터를 권장합니다.

영상 속 렌즈는 니콘 F마운트(D타입) 렌즈이며, EF마운트 렌즈도 마운트 부분과 렌즈 하부를 제외하면 거의 동일한 디자인이라 장착이 가능할 것 같습니다.
