Healthcare is an essential pillar of any society, and it becomes even more critical when we talk about oncology—the branch of medicine that focuses on treating cancer. India, like many other countries, faces the daunting challenge of providing high-quality healthcare to its population. However, within the context of oncology, it takes on a new level of responsibility and urgency. Cancer, as we know, is a formidable adversary, affecting millions of lives and their loved ones each year. Yet, access to proper care, treatment, and awareness is often limited, leaving countless individuals vulnerable to its devastating effects. Namrata Chigurupati, with her medical expertise and business acumen, has emerged as a distinguished healthcare professional in radiation oncology. Trained at esteemed institutions, including Esade Business & Law School and Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, she leveraged her diverse background to become Head of the Radiation Oncology Department at Omega Hospitals in Hyderabad, India. Here, she led a team of 55, treating over 2000 patients in two years, and achieved a 7% reduction in operational costs. Chigurupati also launched four state-of-the-art radiation centres, reduced costs by 10% across five departments, initiated a private vaccination drive during the COVID-19 pandemic, and established a teaching program. In addition to her managerial feats, she has contributed to radiation oncology by publishing influential research papers and mastering specialized software. Her dedication to patient care and innovation is reshaping the future of her field.
