What's a good way to know if a trade is not working before it hits your stop loss? http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/strategies/strategies-tips.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! You should place the stop loss at a level where your trade is negated. That's the only real time you should come out. A stop loss should be placed at a sensible level; before that point the trade still has chance of working out. Closing a trade early just because of a hunch is usually a bad idea. There are some variables that you want to add to your trading plan and I'm going to discuss these below.

But there are also some exceptions to this
- Time; if you're day trading and you've been in a trade that has been stagnating for a long period of time. If you've been executing a momentum based strategy you might consider that that makes the trade valid.
- Indicator filter; if say, the RSI goes into oversold territory you could use that as an exit criteria.
- Conditions change; if surprising news comes out that might override any technicals.
