Kennedy Odede '12 is the first resident from the Kibera slum of Nairobi, Kenya, to graduate from an accredited four-year U.S. university. He gave the welcome address at Wesleyan University's commencement in May 2012.
Odede is president and CEO of Shining Hope for Communities, Shining Hope combats gender inequality and extreme poverty in Kibera by linking tuition-free school for girls to accessible social services for all.
