Four people are believed to have died on Thursday when a section of the ramp connecting the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway to the Second Penang Bridge collapsed.
The bridge, which had been scheduled to be officially opened in September, connects Batu Maung with Batu Kawan.
According to reports, a section of the structure collapsed at about 7 p.m. as vehicles were passing underneath. The section that collapsed is a part of a flyover connecting an expressway to the bridge, the Star reported.
According to reports, one car with four victims inside was buried under the debris. The incident, which occurred during rush hour, caused a massive traffic jam.
The cause of the collapse has yet to be determined. Early investigations will focus on the failure of its formwork support.
