L.E.R #035 I found Gigabyte R9 290X 4Gb GPU at the car boot/flea market €35 - Can I get it to work?

Last weekend, 18 Apr1l 2021, I got this Radeon R9 290X 4Gb GPU at the car boot sale / flea market, and had to pay €35 for it. The seller said it was working, then changed his mind and said it is untested - but I assume it is faulty, so to me it's not a matter of if it works or not, it's all about whether I can fix it...... so how did it work out in the end?
