Weird worlds of the Big and the Small (Malayalam) By Vaisakhan Thampi D S

This is a talk on the 'weirdness' of the Big things and the Small things. We are used to sizes or distances in our daily life. But often we overlook the presence of things that involve either very very big and or very very small dimensions. For example, the diameter of a galaxy is too big, or the size of an atom is too small for us to imagine because we are simply not used to such dimensions. But if you bother to know, those worlds would turn out to be very weird. The natural laws that govern things in the realm of the very big and the very small are much different from what we think they are. To name them, Theory of relativity and the Quantum physics are the scientific formulations that help us to know more about it. Here in this lecture, we discuss a brief outline of the weirdness we are talking about. It is emphasized that many of the things discussed are over-simplified to fit a layperson's understanding, because the real scientific treatment involves a truck-load of heavy mathematics.
