Carpenter Ants are a very common source of sawdust, but they are not always the culprit. Insects like carpenter bees, wood boring beetles, powder post beetles, and others all create sawdust from their nesting and feeding activities. The good news though for homeowners is that carpenter ants usually don't prefer nesting inside peoples homes. As I explained in this video, carpenter ants prefer moisture damaged wood. For the most part, most homes don't produce habitats that are conductive to carpenter ant nests. If you are seeing carpenter ants in your home, its most likely that there is an ant colony within close proximity around the outside of your home.
