An unusual inner fire and a brilliant technique characterise the Spanish violinist Carla Marrero. Other notable qualities are that she is a charismatic speaker and talented programmer who interacts strongly with her audience through moderated themed programs. As an enthusiastic soloist, she has played major violin concertos by Brahms and Schumann in concert halls such as the Konzerthaus Berlin or the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid. In addition to her solo career, Carla Marrero is a passionate chamber musician. In 2018, she founded her own ensemble, the Valor String Quartet. As a chamber musician, she has also given concerts with Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff and Steven Isserlis, among others. She also performs regularly with the celebrated violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter in her ensemble "Mutter’s Virtuosi".
Carla Marrero has won numerous awards at international competitions, among others, 1st prize and a special prize at the International Violin Competition "Villa de Llanes" in Spain (2017) as well as 2nd prize and two special prizes at the Mirecourt International Violin Competition in France (2016). Other awards include the Manfred Grommek Prize (2021) and the Ana Chumachenco Prize (2017) from the Kronberg Academy.
Carla Marrero has been studying with Prof. Ana Chumachenco at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München since 2020. In January 2021, she completed her Konzertexamen studies with the highest distinction at the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar with Prof. Dr. Friedemann Eichhorn.
She has been kindly supported throughout her studies by scholarships from the Anne-Sophie Mutter Stiftung, the Charlotte Krupp scholarship of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar as well as the Society of Friends and Benefectors of the University of Music FRANZ LISZT Weimar.
