Your Leather Belt won't "Last a Lifetime"

I wore a veg tan belt every day for 10 years (to the day!) without oil, conditioner, or any sort of upkeep. Here's what happened, and how I'm going to make a belt that will last much, much longet with proper care.

Many belts are advertised as "the last belt you'll ever need" and while, to an extent, that can be true with proper care- it's important to remember that Saddle Leather, or Vegetable Tanned Leather, is a natural material - your leather belt is goingto dry out, stretch, compress, and do all sorts of things if you wear it daily. Is it possible to own a single belt for all events, from hiking to weddings? I do believe so, heck I've done it for the last 10 years. But as my experiment showed me, proper maintenance with oil and wax paste are the difference between owning a belt for a decade, or a lifetime :)
