On this video we are going to talk about patterns and we will be working in the key of E Dorian.

I believe that the most important thing in improvisation is rhythm. In order to master rhythm you need to master the art of subdivision.

With that concept in mind, we need to understand patterns as short musical motifs and extract the rhythm information from these motifs.

These patterns will free you up when improvising. Because of the strong rhythmic foundation the notes don't matter that much!
