How to Temper Chocolate like a Materials Engineer | Clio Batali | TEDxMIT
Have you thought about the similarities between chocolate and skyscrapers? No? MIT materials scientist and engineer Clio explores how we can use cooking as a pedagogical tool for building intuition about the scientific method. Reframing the way we see mundane things can reveal the unexpected, and build important critical and analytical skills that we all need in the modern world. The democratized science laboratory (the kitchen!) allows for anyone to discover and explore this themselves... All that's missing is an experimentalist! Clio Batali (MIT '21) ties together her transdisciplinary interests in the physical world through her degree in Materials Science and Engineering, and double-minors in Chemistry and History of Architecture, Art, and Design. While she spends her days doing hardware research for IBM, she always finds the time to cook. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
