This short tutorial about the shoulder joint covers the basic anatomy and definition of the glenohumeral joint. The shoulder joint involves the articulating surfaces of the glenoid fossa and the head of the humerus and therefore connects the humerus to the scapula, allowing different movements of the arm. It is a ball and socket joint.
The articular capsule of the shoulder joint is reinforced by several ligaments as well as the surrounding muscles of the rotator cuff (subscapularis, supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor muscles). They fix the humeral head to the sockets and execute several actions for the shoulder joint movement such as rotation, abduction or adduction.
In this video we will go over the basic components and anatomy of the shoulder joint:
- 0:23 articulating surfaces, capsule and ligaments
- 0:54 important muscles of the shoulder joint
- 2:12 acromion and subacromial bursa
