Notch Trowel and Thinset Coverage Tips - Schluter Allset

Key Takeaways:

1. flat trowell substrate("key" or "burn-in")
and row notch tile
OR flat trowel ("back-butter") tile
and row notch substrate.

2. If you are not achieving the desired
coverage, use a bigger trowell. More
thinset = easier to achieve coverage.
1/2x1/2" is my go-to size.

3. Collapse the notch troweled rows by
wiggling the tile back and forth,
approximately the width of the
thinset rows.

4. Directionally trowell the thinset. This
means spread the thinset in one
direction, perpendicular to the length
of the tile. This also allows you to
knock the ridges over, rather than
slide them, when you wiggle the tile.

5. Keep it clean.
