Delivery of New Combine: Great day for a Farmer
On December 21, 2018, we took delivery of a new, 2019 John Deere S780 combine. Santa came early this year!
We look forward to placing this machine in service here. There is some new technology in this machine:
1. The way it develops yield information is now more automated, and should get more accurate over the days of operation.
2. There is a system of internal sensors and cameras that make automated adjustments to all the separator settings that will maintain a desired grain quality output. This should make me a better combine operator, and improve the quality of the grain we sell.
3. The monitor/control screen is Gen 4, moving from a GS2630 in the previous machine. Looks like a bit of a learning curve to become proficient with it.
You will also see the dealer haul away our trade-in, a 2014 John Deere S680 combine. It has served us well, and it has run reliably over its life here. It was a noticeable improvement over its predecessor, a 9770STS. We hope the new combine will be as good or better than the 680.
We placed the 780 in the shop right after it arrived, and installed the 2-way radio and other accessories, like a second toolbox for cutter bar repairs. There are a couple additions the dealer must make, too--cameras on the rear end and in the grain tank.
I've started perusing the owner's manual. It is thick as an old Sears catalog. I want to be familiar with some of the settings and automation before I step into the cab. Good thing the OM has lots of pictures!
It is always a pleasant day to receive a new machine here at Carnahan and Sons. To be able to utilize late-model equipment with improved technology is a great personal satisfaction, and it contributes to our farm profitability.
