Sheriff's Office STARR Helicopter Assisted Agencies with Mount Diablo Fire

On Saturday, July 20, 2019, at about 5:23 PM, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (CON Fire) requested assistance from the Office of the Sheriff with a fire on Mount Diablo State Park. The fire was near the top of the mountain, where the visitor's center and communications tower are located.

STARR was the first asset to arrive on scene. STARR launched the initial attack on the fire by using the Bambi Bucket to drop water on the fire. Later, STARR worked alongside CAL FIRE. In all, STARR dropped approximately 12 buckets of water on the fire.

The fire was contained overnight. This video shows how the Bambi Bucket is used for fire suppression.
