Attack Of The 50 Ft. Woman (1958): Poster Art Showcase

Continuing with the Poster Fest is a towering site: My rendition of Attack Of The 50 Foot Woman (1958). Starring actress Allison Hayes as the title character, 'Attack' was 1950s Sci-fi B-Movie at its' craziest. While it boasted a great premise, the end result was more drama than monstrous; The 'Attack' is relegated to the final few minutes of the film and climaxes in true B-movie fashion. It has some entertaining and funny moments that are definitely 'Saturday Night Creature-Features' worthy. Nonetheless, this film has become a classic in the sci-fi genre, influencing many parodies and even a remake in 1993 starring Darryl Hannah.

What endures for this film is the original movie poster, which has become in some ways more iconic and popular than the feature it represents. Featuring great artwork by artist Reynold Brown, It is the classic case of a poster that attracts movie-goers to the feature; Representing minimal plot while supplying a visual that makes you say, "Hey--Let's go see this!"

Thus, I decided for my illustration to create a poster that more closely represents the plot of the film while still keeping its' campy atmosphere. I went full comic book style, which undoubtedly goes with the flow. I ended up drawing a few more people than initially planned. I felt the scene almost looked too abandoned; Like everyone ran and left town when she showed up--which may have been the more sensible thing. But you know these B-Movies! Still, it's always a TON of fun drawing a giant monster lady.

More to come--And watch your step!
