TW for George Floyd/discussion of systematic racism:
I know that, in light of current events, some of you may be thinking "wow, how dare you post art during protests?" I want to debunk the entire "things are sad so I won't post" thing right now. As someone who cares about other people (as I assume most people are), I have been feeling a lot of hurt over the shooting of George Floyd and systematic racism. The way that it has taken over social media was like stabbing a wound that had been a pulsating ache beforehand. (That wound is empathy, since I am a white queer genderfluid person, so while I don't understand what it's like to be black or to be killed for no reason, I understand what it's like to be frowned upon by society, and regardless of that, it hurts me to see so many people dying and so many more people's futures being sabotaged by a racism so big that I can hardly fight it).
So why post this video? Because it's emotionally taxing to be continually hurt, to see so many other people grieving together. I want to give you a break from that collective grief. That's what art is, right? Something to enjoy, to find solace and comfort in. So I hope you find comfort and joy in this video, just like I find comfort and joy in your comments, likes, and views.
