Why Neil deGrasse Tyson is Wrong about Consciousness

Recently Neil deGrasse Tyson said on a panel discussion that consciousness is baffling and we don't really understand it, and then went on to suggest that the preponderance of books currently being published on the topic, is not only evidence that we don't understand it, but perhaps even that consciousness doesn't even exist in the first place. I wanted to take a shot at trying to give my ten cents on the matter.
