Injecting Asian Hornet nest 30ft up a cedar tree
This video shows the destruction of an Asian Hornet nest in Andernos-les-Bains, South West France.
The destruction was done later than the advised time of dawn, to allow filming to take place and provide the opportunity for APHA National Bee Unit staff and the APHA wildlife team to see nest destruction in action.
First the nest is protruded with the extendable SO2 delivery rod and once the gas has been dispensed, the nest is bashed down on to a ground sheet and removed for analysis and destruction. This prevents any potential reestablishment of nests in the same tree.
If you think you have seen an Asian Hornet in Great Britain please notify the GB Non Native Species Secretariat at: alertnonnative@ceh.ac.uk
With thanks to the beekeepers and the Mairie of Andernos-les-Bains.
