Russia due to flex military might in Victory Day celebrations

Russia will flex its military muscles today as part of its annual Victory Day celebrations with tanks, fighter jets and high-tech missile systems expected to be paraded in Moscow.

The display comes amid heightened tensions in the region and follows a dramatic military build-up along the Russian border.

Ukraine fears an invasion may be imminent.

Russia last year spent more than $41 billion on military – less than six per cent of the figure President Joe Biden wants to grant the Pentagon this year.

Public data indicates Russia has more than a million active troops, 4,000 aircraft and 13,000 tanks, and its navy includes 64 submarines, 15 destroyers, 11 frigates and a single aircraft carrier in service.
