Archery Speed Shooting Technique: Instructional

**Annotations** Being the compulsive person I am, I looked into my timings and learned my video editing software was using "SMPTE Drop 29.97fps". This caused the timings I reported in the video to be off by .19 and .27 sec and so I've annotated the accurate timings in the video.

Hello this is my first video I've made, especially concerning archery, and I thought I'd share my technique with others interested and looking for help in the field of archery, specifically “speed shooting”. I call my method the “Intuitive Grip” as for me it's as intuitive as writing with a pen, or using a paintbrush; whats to say the first paintbrush wasn't inspired from an arrow?!

First: I developed this technique without aid, but with lots of inspiration: specifically Lars Andersen and Lajos Kassai, as they've not only shown what is possible with archery, but even surpassed my expectations of a once cumbersome and awkward practice. I haven't been able to find any instructional videos or writing that details their techniques; only other people with their methods and guesses as to what works best, and the ones I have seen just didn't work for me, so I decided to start from scratch and develop my own.

I started on this venture in early January this year. I didn't want to learn to use the bow & arrow requiring modified nocks (duck-taped, double-nocks, etc...) because I didn't want to learn stunts or tricks that I'd only be able to do with modified setups; even though the book “Arab Archery” specifically states the use of two nocks on a single arrow to increase the speed at which one can nock an arrow repeatedly, I decided against a modified setup and chose to learn proficiency in handling (and with that comes speed). It took me about a month to develop my technique and get to the point where I knew what exactly I needed to do and practice.

I do not use, nor have any modified nocks (flared, double, taped, etc...), all my arrows actually clip onto the string and the hardware I use can be bought or made (I buy shafts and make my arrows myself). I'm not speeding up or slowing down any video footage as you can tell by the leaves and the wind chimes moving in the wind (although I will agree I do look sped up in some instances).

Now for me, using a bow and arrow feels very natural and intuitive, and so I'm sharing it with anyone who will listen in hopes of making archery less cumbersome and awkward for others, specifically concerning the handling of the bow and arrow with proficiency and fluid movement.

Let me know what yall think, anyone with 10 digits can do this and get this fast.

*I had to make this long winded description because I worry people will scream “SCAM”, “TRICK!”, or “LIES” but this is real; get up, get out, and do it yourself.

**To do this method proficiently, you'll need to develop tough skin, specifically between the 2nd and 3rd knuckles of the fingers that support the arrow shaft. Allow yourself time to heal, then continue practicing.

***Also I'm aware my movements are greatly exaggerated, see my later videos for my updated handling and form.
