Permanently Disabling the Defective GPU on a 2011 15" MacBook Pro - Hardware Mod Overview

In this video, I go over a very involved and tedious modification I performed to permanently disable the defective dedicated AMD video card on a Late-2011 15" Apple MacBook Pro. This mod involves desoldering and removing the gMux chip (which handles the dynamic GPU switching on these systems), and hard-wire the LVDS output lines of the integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics 3000) to the lines going to the LVDS connector. It took quite a bit of patience and quite a few bodge wires, but the end result was a fully working system! I also ended up having to flash the system to MacBookPro8,1 (2011 13") firmware, as graphics acceleration wouldn't work with the stock 8,2 firmware for some reason. The only things that don't work with this mod as of now are the brightness control, and the external display port. Other than that, though, everything works great!

Wiring diagram s and more details can be found on my MacRumors thread here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/permanently-disable-2011-15-17-macbook-pro-dedicated-gpu-gmux-ic-bypass.2134019/
