2016 John Deere X570 - 100-Hour Update - Some Pro's and Con's

Our John Deere X570 just passed 100 hours last week and I have been running it almost every day this summer. It's been a good reliable mowing machine, and handles all of my weekly lawn accounts without a problem. There seems to be a good bit of speculation on the current X-series lawn and garden tractors from Deere, especially the X500 series. I've had a lot of feedback and interest in my X570 review videos and a lot of people seem to be in the market for one, so I decided to do an update video on this one and answer some of the questions that have come up in the comments and through my messages.

The X570 had 15 hours on it at the start of this mowing season and now it has 100 hours, so that just goes to show you how much I have been using it. For the most part it has been very reliable and it is a strong running and nice mowing machine. For what the machine cost new, I am very impressed with the quality Deere puts into these machines and for the most part, feel that it is worth the $6,000 price tag (with 48" deck). Here are the pro's and con's I discuss in the video.

Pros:

-Heavy and well-built overall, from the 10-gauge frame and deep shell mower deck to the durable K72 hydrostatic (ground engaging) transaxle and commercial-grade Kawasaki FS730V power plant.
-Mows great and is fast. Can save you time.
-48" Accel Deep deck has good airflow, which leaves a really nice cut, even when driving at full speed.
-Differential lock is handy and works great on hills, even with the stock turf tires.
-Suitable for most jobs around the yard, can handle all different kinds of lawn attachments and ground-engaging sleeve hitch attachments.
-Comfortable and easy to use.

Cons (or things that I think need minor adjustment/improvement):

-Steering is rack-and-pinion style like most cheaper lawn tractors. Should have an automotive-style steering box like the older garden tractors.
-The two J-pins that mount the mower deck to the lift shaft are hard to remove. Recommend loosening the two lock nuts on the backside of the J-pins so they are easier to unlatch.
-Mower deck belt tension system is cumbersome, might need a second person to remove tension while you install the belt on the PTO.
-Hard to install the front mower deck draft plate/bar because the two hooks welded on the front of the mower deck are too large. Usually have to take the draft plate off the tractor, hook it onto the deck, then install the draft plate again.
-Reverse pedal sticks when you let off it. Have to let off the pedal before you want to stop. Could become a hazard.
-For what it's worth, tractor should come with working taillights and 16x6.50-8 front turf tires instead of 15x6.50-8.
-Fuel gauge is not always accurate. Keep an eye on your fuel level!

It may seem like a lengthy list of cons, but they are merely suggestions for things on the tractor that I think could be easily re-evaluated and fixed. Don't let the cons take away from the fact that this X570 is a reliable and stout machine. For those interested in purchasing a set of taillights for their X300 or X500 series, Jeff Walters makes the kit. He can be reached at jefflhs@hotmail.com.
